The Cause & Knowledge – Jersey Shore (EP Review)

jersey-shore back

The Cause and Knowledge have been hitting the pavement hard in the Tri State area. They are some young new school cats with a vintage NJ sound. Every release they drop they seem to find their artistry more and evolve as established emcees. Their newest project is the humble yet gritty “Jersey Shore EP“.  While most East Coast artists seem to have lost there way it is evident that The Cause and Knowledge are sticking to the script. No bling talk, auto tune, tight jeans or dirty south beats. Just real hip hop minus the gimmicks.

These boys are repping Jersey hard. The first word you hear when clicking play is “NJ.” The project kicks off with a catchy melodic record called “The Truth.” It sounds like a 04 Kanye West beat with a super duper catchy hook. The verses are raw and mesh with the orchestra and the sped up samples are too perfect for this track. The Cause spits “Jersey go hard drugs on every corner/ the place you die name less nobody mourns ya/ the reason why mothers stay spiritual/ I tell the rappers don’t hate me cause I’m lyrical.

Songs like “Garden State” and “Fighters” is starting to nitch a trade mark sound for The Cause and Knowledge. Each record is the same formula of great samples with some hard drums. Strong lyrics and substance. “Outcast” finds the duo the hungriest and almost at times angry. The intensity and cunning word play slice like a guinsu. Knowledge spits “Pants sagging like old folks/ Shoot up with two needles, dog, I’m so dope.” The two emcees trade bars like pro’s and show they are a seasoned duo.

If we were to say we can find one wack song on this project it would be a lie. The Cause and Knowledge deliver a solid EP and move farther in there struggle to the top. It’s only a matter of time before they reach there destination. Download this project here:
