Today we are chilling it with a new rap duo called Status and Krookid Hooks.
HipHopLEAD: For starts where did the name come from?
Status: Most of the homeboys called me Stats (short for Status), Status represents acheiving at the highest level possible whether it be makin beats, rhyming or makin money. I always wanted to be someone that people can look up to and Status embodies that.
Krookid Hooks: Krookid Hooks came from being crooked as a kid. I was constantly getting in trouble. My parents were sick of me fuckin up in school so they kicked me out the house. I eventually ended up on probation and the went to juvie for months at a time. The “Hooks” was a drug thing. It’s also a nice play on words that rolls off the tounge.
HipHopLEAD: Where are you reppin?
Status: Im a North Denver native. My heart lies with the north side but I have family and friends all over Colorado and abroad.
Krookid Hooks: Right now I’m living in Arizona, 20 min east of Phoenix but I rep Denver, “mile high city.” I’m from the North Side of Denver but I have love for all of Denver, Northern and Southern Colorado.
HipHopLEAD: Do you think being from Denver makes it alot harder to get the fame and recognition you deserve?
Status: Absolutely. Most people associate Colorado with mountains and cowboys, but we all grew up in the city and never even touched a snowboard.
Krookid Hooks: Fuck yeah!!! But we aint letting that hold us back.
HipHopLEAD: What made you guys pick up a mic and get busy?
Status: I started off playing bass in a punk rock band which lead to makin beats, so it was inneviable that I would start rhymin too.
Krookid Hooks: Ive always been a huge fan of music from Hip Hop to Metal to Classic rock.. seeing RUN DMC do music with Aerosmith and ONYX working with Biohazard enspired me alot. Since I didnt have the paitents to learn to play guitar, I picked up a mic instead. I know now i made the right choice.
HipHopLEAD: Are you doing anything else other then rapping? Producing? Mixing? etc?
Status: I own a cigarette vending machine business and in the day and run a steak house and strip club at night.
Krookid Hooks: When im not writing, recording, drawing or reading im raising two sons and enjoing life with my beautiful wife.
HipHopLEAD: Who were your influences to get into music?
Status: Soul Assassins, Gangstarr, Pantera, Frank Sinatra, Beastie Boys, NWA and Three 6 Mafia.
