Today we are chilling with a new up and coming rapper named Fatty Soprano.
HipHopLEAD: Did you model the name after Tony Soprano?
Fatty Soprano: I’m a big fan of the Sopranos and it’s funny because I used to go by “fatboy”.
And Tony Soprano was my favorite character in the series. Everytime I would drop some dope bars on a track I felt like the rap Tony Soprano on these beats .I tried to blend my stage name at the time and tony soprano in a rhyme this one time and came up with “Fatty Soprano”. My manager Prezzy liked it so much I decided to roll with it.
HipHopLEAD: You went from Russia, to The U.S., to Montreal…. Which country was your favorite and why?
Fatty Soprano: Can’t say I have a favorite I really like them all , Russia , where I was born , gotta love the history behind it and Moscow is an incredible city.
America is the place dreams come true!
And Canada, Montreal , the city I grew up in.
HipHopLEAD: Alot of media outlets have featured your music. Canadian, French, United States… how does it feel to have a such a global impact with your music, as an indy artist?
Fatty Soprano: It’s just insane how people are feeling and can relate to your music worldwide.
I would like to thank everybody for the support and a big shout out to hiphoplead.com !
HipHopLEAD: What made you come up with the title “Canadian Nightmare American Dream” ?
Fatty Soprano: We have a very competitive hip hop scene here in canada , especially in montreal and everybody’s trying really hard to get their name out there . I would say that every emcee feels that he is a nightmare to the competition and a dream at the same time because if he had the chance to achieve more with his music the other dude would want to be in his shoes. That is what inspired me to name my ep ” Canadian Nightmare American Dream”.
HipHopLEAD: This year alone you appeared on several Digital Dynasty mixtapes, your video appeared on World Star HipHop and your internet presence has been full throttle. Is your goal to be an indy artist or getting signed to a major label?
Fatty Soprano: Even though these days the independent way is the way to go I would still like to try the major label route.
HipHopLEAD: Which music scene intrigues you more … U.S. or Canada?
Fatty Soprano: Canada has a very interesting music scene, but The US scene intrigues me the most , I really like the grind , the motivation and you can really feel the hunger in the music.
HipHopLEAD: Who were your personal influences to get into music?
Fatty Soprano: Notorious b.i.g. , it’s more of a music influence but when i heard that ready to die album I knew I wanted to get into music and tell my story .
HipHopLEAD: What new projects are coming out? Any features?
Fatty Soprano: C.N.A.D (canadian nightmare american dream) coming out soon ! I have some crazy features on there , bet’s 106 & park freestyle friday winner Bishop Brigante from Toronto , I have Bizarre from D-12 on there and I got one of the hottest cats in the game right now.
