Discover Dis – Southern Lyricist On The Rise

Discover Dis

DiscoverDis started rapping when he was in 6th grade. Throughout his childhood he toyed with rapping here and there. In 2006 DiscoverDis started doing promotions for artists and when he found they weren’t as focused as he was, he decided to get behind the mic myself. Discover has been recording professionally since 2010 and building a fanbase with his own grass roots grind.

Currently he’s working on an album titled “Sinsations”, that will be out in 2013. Another work, “Omega Nightmares”, is due later in 2013. It is the follow up project to “Alpha Dreams”. We had a chance to kick it with the Georgia representer… it went something like this…

HipHopLead- That is an interesting name. For starts where did the name come from?

Discover Dis- The name came from a screen name I created on a social network site. It stuck in my mind and my wife said that I should run with it when I was deciding on a stage name.

HipHopLead-Where exactly in GA are you repping?

Discover Dis- I hold it down for Macon, GA by way of Nashville,Tn. Gotta put down the home town also.

HipHopLead-We know that things didn’t work when you were doing the promotions and it made you want to test the waters when it comes to spitting. But what exact event, or as some say “the straw that broke the camels back”, that made you wanna get into HipHop as an artist?

Discover Dis- I spent thousands of dollars between three artists and they did not want to listen to me. They kept making decisions without consulting me so I was like forget it. I will put all of this time, energy, and effort into myself. I use to rap when I was younger anyway so the transition was smooth.

HipHopLead-Who were your influences to get into music?

Discover Dis- Three Six Mafia, 8 Ball, MJG, Slick Rick, Ludacris, T. I., Eminem, and Nas.

HipHopLead- Being from Georgia are you happy with the current artists leading the way?

Discover Dis- Some what, I ain’t from here but I have lived here going on 13 years now so the music from here definitely has influence over me. I like the shine that the artists are getting but I wish it was more diverse. The auto tune style of music is killing me.

HipHopLead- Alot of people say the majority of the rappers in the South are not lyrical. After listening to “I’m Yearning”, and a few other records its apparent that quality lyrics are important to you. What makes you not want to not dumb it down?

Discover Dis- I love lyrics, that’s why I can listen to a lot of East Cost up north rappers. I have Nas, Rakim, Biggie, Wu-Tang Clan in my music collection. I listen to all types but I have always been fascinated by the way someone says something clever.

HipHopLead- What projects have you released to date?

Discover Dis- “Alpha Dreams” was my first album it’s on Itunes, Rhapsody, etc. I also released the mixtape “ColdHeat” on back in July 2012.

HipHopLead- We know that “Sinsations” is next up to be released. What can we expect from that project?

Discover Dis- “Sinsations” will be a different project all together mainly catering to the women audience. It will highlight love and relationships. I already have six songs planned for it. Its gonna start off as an ep album and graduate to a full lp if the response is overwhelming.

HipHopLead- Is it an album or mixtape?

Discover Dis- It will be an album available on all the major internet stores for download and via my website

HipHopLead- How will “Sinsations” differ from “Omega Nightmares” ?

Discover Dis- “Sinsations” will be talking about love and relationships the good stuff in life. Omega Nightmares is on that dark sinister type of vibe. Real dark sounds like horns and organs. The songs are about the dark side of the human psyche. Like demons, temptations, bad situations, conflict, and giving in.

HipHopLead- Which is your favorite and why?

Discover Dis- I like both projects because they both show growth. Life is a variety of things and they both appeal to people for different reasons. Sometimes we don’t wanna always listen to happy stuff and vice versa. I think more women will enjoy “Sinsations” and more men will enjoy “Omega Nightmares”.

HipHopLead- Any features on either project worth mentioning?

Discover Dis- Yeah, I got a song called “Thug 80’s style” featuring Mike Nitty. It’s the best song on there. It was crazy making and the production is like a movie. My man Ricko Clark got mad skills with the production. I set the tone for the hook and Mike Nitty did his thang. I liked his verses so much that he did two verses and I did one.

On “Sinsations” I got a song called “Chasing Cheetahs” ft. Endo Smokes, it’s bananas. It is about the pursue of women. How a man goes through what he has to in order to win the ultimate prize. So far it’s the best song to push as a single for that project.

HipHopLead- Are you on a label? If so let us know…..

Discover Dis- I started my own label Bankedoutt Music Group, LLC in 2012. I do my own distribution and handle all my business. It’s an independent label and when it grows I might partner up with bigger labels if the situation is right.

HipHopLead- We had a chance to vibe out to your “Cold Heat” mixtape. It goes hard. How long did it take you to compile the songs you wanted to use on there?

Discover Dis- I worked on the project for like almost a year. I wanted to craft something that would be overall complete and stand up against time. I put in a lot of hours recording and researching for the perfect songs to jack beats from that would fit with the entire concept.

HipHopLead- What’s your favorite one off that project?

Discover Dis- I have a couple, “Getting It”, “Boss Time Grinding”, and “Jungle Weed”. The first two are original songs and be found on itunes, etc. Jungle Weed is an original title but the production got jacked.

HipHopLead- How would you describe your style of hip-hop?

Discover Dis- Southern spitter with northern twist and an unorthodox delivery.

HipHopLead- Is it safe to say you have more of a TI influence over Future (laughs)?

Discover Dis- Yes that is safe to say.(laughing) T.I. has lyrics and is not all about auto tune. Future makes great melody records but I don’t see him having a 10 year career doing the same thing over and over.

HipHopLead- What is a typical day like for you?

Discover Dis- Waking up, getting my kids off to school, listening to music, jotting down dope ideas and concepts, working, getting off work, hitting the studio depending on the night, writing more songs, playing with my kids and trying to put some time in with my wife.

HipHopLead- Other than music what do you do to make that paper?

Discover Dis- I work and run another business (Mental Health). I also do promo for some clients and whatever other opportunities come along.

Here at we like to ask our features some questions that really are out of the norm. We do this because it gives the fans a broader outlook on you. So lets get it cracking ….

HipHopLead- Keep it real … Luda or TI?

Discover Dis- T.I. if its right now, Luda if he was in that zone where he created back for the first time.

HipHopLead- Jeezy or Gucci??

Discover Dis- Jeezy cause I can connect more with his music. Gucci has had some hits but I connect more with Jeezy.

HipHopLead- Who is baddest chick in the game?

Discover Dis- If we talking about entertainment period, then I’m on Kerry Washington.
Music I will say Kanary Diamonds. I don’t know her personally but I like her rhymes and style.

HipHopLead- If you had the power to resurrect any dead emcee from the past who would it be?

Discover Dis- Big Pun. I would love to see how his career would of taken off. He came out hard but you know bad health got the best of him.

HipHopLead- Tell us a hidden talent DiscoverDis has?

Discover Dis- I am a beast on the grill. I even have plans to open up my own restaurant later in the future.

Back To The Norm…….

HipHopLead- On your song “Getting It” you really opened up. You were talking about dark places and going insane. What real life events transpired that made you write from such a deep place?

Discover Dis- Tragedy feels like it has been with me forever. I thought about my mom being murdered when I was 12, my family abandoning me, experiencing things that teenagers shouldn’t have. I also focused on the set backs I have experienced as an adult. The world can be a cruel place sometimes.

HipHopLead- Wow those are some horrible events to say the least. We are glad to hear of you doing so well right now. In the video you kept a grimy background. How important was it to match up the visual to the track?

Discover Dis- I met up with my man and we really wanted to bring the art form back to videos. We both share common beliefs that videos and songs should fit together. Too many people out there just throwing stuff together.

HipHopLead- Name 1 song you’ve done that will have the viewers hooked!?

Discover Dis- “Getting It” a lot of people can relate and they like the feel. The song is being played in regular rotation on

HipHopLead- Thanks for hollering at us and in closing give any shoutouts….links to your sites….F.U.’S or whatevers clever
