Whiplash – The Awakening
When it comes to consistent grinding there isn’t too many unsigned artists that do it like Australian rapper Whiplash. On top of taking trips to the United States to shoot videos and network, doing local shows and dropping a slew of mixtapes over the last few years, Whip still finds time to bring us his best work to date.
Right off the bat we noticed the intriguing art work showing Whiplash walking away from the Illuminati and we knew this product has a meaning. This EP album has a conspiracy theme to it and Whiplash has a serious message to deliver.
The EP kicks off with blazing self titled track, “The Awakening”. The thunderous rock infused foundation is perfect for Whiplash to let off shots at the one world Government that he, and many others, believe are taking over the planet. Not too mention Whip enlisted his New Jersey comrade, Tha Advocate, for assistance in delivering his message. Advo spits, ” we live in the era of terror/ look through the Govnernment’s mirror/ you see a contradiction to make things clearer/ let me make things realer/ this is man made organic/ mass hysteria to cause panic, and they planned it!”. Whiplash follows suit delivering just as potent bars, with lines like, “so no I won’t keep being silent to tyrants that only like bringing violence/ and know I won’t bow down to your highness”. Not too mention Whiplash adds the icing to the cake by delivering his melodic hook over the violin patch in the chorus to make a perfect balance.
The next track might be one of the best Whiplash solo songs we ever heard. “Guides” finds Whiplash making a deadly combination, what can that be? Answer- A song with a message, dope beat and a killer hook. Whip continues to deliver his message of a self revolution on “Guides” while trying to get the public to understand that he is “trying to be free from a society, that lies to me”. Whip leaves his physical and takes us on a spiritual journey on “Enlightment” and keeps us away from a “demon race” while putting a battery in the public’s back by letting us know the status quo is unacceptable and that “instead of saying how it is, lets change this”. Another words.. time for some action.
Whiplash really starts to scratch the surface on “Third Eye” and “Sheeple”. This is a full blown assault on the illuminati and he continues to deliver his message that “many men only give a damn about getting pennies from war”, over the beefed up sonic production.
The rebel mentality is in full tact and Whiplash sounds the most focused he ever has. Not too mention each track sounds very well balanced and clear compared to his early releases. We tell artists all the time to record your music professionally and it can go along way in this over crowded market of distortion. It sounds as if Whiplash came up with a formula, hit a new studio and spewed his thought in rhyme format….. and it worked. Everything was well crafted from the David Icke samples, to the mixing, to the delivery, artwork and the words. We hope this will be a trend from the Aussy up and comer and all the other emcees on the come up. It’s over quality over quantity and if it’s done just right you just might “awake” the public.
