Khaki Blue – West Coast Reppin MC

HipHopLEAD: Today we are kicking it with a new up and coming rapper named Khaki Blue. For starts where did the name come from?

Khaki Blue: It’s a child hood name that was giving to me by friends I was wearing khaki’s all the time so they started calling me khaki I added the blue because of my affiliation with crips.

HipHopLEAD: Where are you reppin?
Khaki Blue: That South Central Los Angeles West West, you know.

HipHopLEAD: How hard is it to stay focused on being positive and doing music when the mean streets of South Central can lure you in so easy?

Khaki Blue: It seems easy for me since I was born and raised here, it becomes apart of life and you learn to use the things you see and hear and put that into music which makes it comes more natural.

HipHopLEAD: In California, Gang Life is as common as the sky being blue. How hard has it been to deal with the death of your Brother and many close friends?
Khaki Blue: It helped me to change my life to be determined to make it through any obstacle that comes my way.

HipHopLEAD: Do you feel that made you stronger and more aware to the streets or more angry?

Khaki Blue: Definitely stronger and prepared for whatever comes my way. I already know it’s dangerous as anywhere in this world, but you have to know your way around and pay close attention to every detail.

HipHopLEAD: How do you feel about the Newer rap artists from Cali saying the OG’s aren’t helping them?

Khaki Blue: It’s funny you asked this. I say a lot of those cats are further along than other up and coming west coast artists and they should be grateful for their position now. How can you accept the bigger things to come when you can’t appreciate the small ones you have now.

HipHopLEAD: And How do you feel about Ice Cube saying he doesn’t need to help newer artists?

Khaki Blue: I’m with cube one hundred percent. It’s not his job to help dudes. They need to be grown men and make a way for themselves and don’t depend on nobody, but as I said the ones who do have something to say is further along then other west coast artists.

HipHopLEAD: Back to you …What made you pick up a mic and get busy?

Khaki Blue: Tired of hearing all this same west coast gangbang music the west has more to offer.

HipHopLEAD: Who were your influences to get into music?

Khaki Blue: Ice Cube, E-40, Snoop Dog, Spice-1, Mystikal to name a few.

HipHopLEAD: Being you are a WEST Born and Bred artist … who are your favorite East Coast artists?

Khaki Blue: Biggie, Raekwon, Fabolous, Nas

HipHopLEAD: Are you on a label?

Khaki Blue: Indie all the way baby! Big Faces Records that’s me getting that indie paper.

HipHopLEAD: Any new projects coming out? Any features?

Khaki Blue: I have a new mixtape Im working on called It’s the West Allstars, I have features from the Cali Jerkz, Inglewood artist 211 (who’s signed to Jezzy label CTE) and a bunch of west coast up and coming artists.

HipHopLEAD: How would you describe your style of hip-hop?

Khaki Blue: Unique… Is the word best fit my style something that stands out.

HipHopLEAD: What’s your goal for the hip-hop game?

Khaki Blue: To show the world that not all west coast artists talk about the same thing and to show we have more substance than thought.

HipHopLEAD: For those that don’t know are you still a Crip?

Khaki Blue: I will always be crip affiliated but I am a grown man first and foremost.

HipHopLEAD: After catching Jail time and gun charges how come all your music isn’t about street life? What makes you branch out more?

Khaki Blue: Street life music has been done and will continue to be done. I want to stand out be apart of something different. I’m not following everyone else, course I have to pave my own way.

HipHopLEAD: Are you impressed with the response you have received from your presence on Digital Dynasty, Unsigned On The Grind and The N.E.W. Pt. 6 ?

Khaki Blue: Hell yeah shouts to Advo for the plug, it’s a good look for me it gave me the opportunity to be heard from West to East.

HipHopLEAD: Does you agenda include trying to change what’s going on with the fued between the Bloods and Crips?

Khaki Blue: Not really change because change has to come within first, but to bring so kind belief in other things besides pain, prison, and death.

HipHopLEAD: If you had to compare yourself to any 2 rappers dead or alive ..who would they be?

Khaki Blue: E-40 and Mystikal. These guys are what you call unique artists no one will ever sound the same as them that’s me unique.

HipHopLEAD: Here at HipHopLead.com we like to ask our features some questions that really are out of the norm. We do this because it gives the fans a broader outlook on you. So lets get it cracking ….

Khaki Blue: I’m more concerned on when things will take place, actually to me it’s taking longer then expected.

Khaki Blue: Hell yea!! For the artist most definitely gotta get your cake some kind of way.

HipHopLEAD: Who would win in a battle …Ice Cube in his prime or Snoop in his hayday?
