Jae Prod – East Coast Upcoming Rapper

Today we are chilling with a underground rapper who has been on the grind on the East Coast since 2005. Lets kick it with JaeProd.

HipHopLEAD: For starts where did the name come from?

JaeProd: I’ve always had the nickname Jae, I just added the Prod short for Prodigy, so I just put em together and kept it going wit it.

HipHopLEAD: Where are you reppin?

JaeProd: Queens,NY.. Long Island City. Born and raised here.

HipHopLEAD: What made you pick up a mic and get busy?

JaeProd: I was always rec tracks on my four track recorder around 03 here and there nothing to serious but it was one time that I had wrote a whole page front and back filled wit raps and verses and in one of those verses I disrespected the principal of the school and something a lot more conterversial which I can’t speak of.

So the teacher at that time told me what was I writing and I didn’t tell him cuz I was too into writing that day that I wasn’t paying attention to the class work so he took it away from me and that leaded to me getting kicked out of H.S and havin the whole H.S on high alert… like literally they had a bomb squad wit the K-9′s and all like they were over dramatic for a simple verse u know.

So from that day on I took it serious cuz I knew my words will make a impact in this world one day. In 2002 you won the Hot 97 contest and was crowned the “spitfire” champion.

HipHopLEAD: When you won that how did it catapult your career?

JaeProd: Well at that point I didn’t even had a demo or a real studio cd I just had a cassette tape wit a few songs. I entered the challenge, It was a 5 week battle each week we move up a round so I managed to survive to the last round and thanks to the votes and fans and the ILL freestyle verses I took the title. I wasn’t even serious on doing music at that point.

I had no demo, no bio, or not even a website. So hot97.com gave me a bio and a featured song on the website as the SpitFire Champion for that month but that was there for like almost a whole year haha!. That was the first time I was ever exposed to the public or whoever had the chance to peep that out. Who were your influences to get into music?JaeProd: I’ve always liked Nas, Big Pun, Tupac. Everytime I heard them it gave me the motivation to do this music and possibly make it one day.

HipHopLEAD: For those that don’t know tell people what BMC entertainment is?

JaeProd: BMC Ent (Break Mind Control Ent) is the label me and my right
hand man HEC formed around 07 after we got featured on the Rap Fanatic Magazine, “Unsigned Threat” section, and we made it official from that day on. So far we got 3 artists signed to it and we pushing forward wit it and putting out every project we come up with. Yall gonna hear a lot from us real soon.

HipHopLEAD: What projects have you released to date?

JaeProd: Iv released 3 cds and one mixtape since 05. That was the year I
got serious and started recording at real studios. On your newest venture “The New York Times”, it has that New York underground sound.

HipHopLEAD: With NY not being in the driver seat for along time, do you feel that style of hiphop and title will isolate you?

JaeProd: I just hope not. I know a lot of people still feel the NY movement and NY is still coming up we still repping it hard so the title will push me up further cuz NY is always NY the best city in the world and I know peoples will want to hear my side of the story about the grimey streets of NYC the five boroughs of death.

You know what I’m saying? Living in NY is tough, its 2010 already..

HipHopLEAD: Any new projects coming out? Any features?

JaeProd: Yea I’m working on a new project which I’ll be releasing by the summer. I can’t tell ya the title yet but it’s gonna be a dope concept this time, everything is gonna be in order and it will be released thru itunes only. At the moment I aint gonna feature wit no one I’m a just do me in the mean time.

HipHopLEAD: What is this Euro tour we heard about for you this summer?

JaeProd: Yea my boy HEC is on the grind rite now we might get a good connect to go out on tour in Europe, open up for a few acts we gonna go wit, so if everything goes well and we get to be on the bill we out.

HipHopLEAD: If by some chance music doesn’t pan out for you what will you be doing 5 years from now?

JaeProd: Oh man I love taking pictures that’s my other passion. I’d be doing the photo shoots for my label and I like art. I got good skill wit drawing and drawing cartoonish type of things. I’ma be going to college for that and have music as a side hustle too you always gotta have a plan B for whatever you do, something to fall back on you know.

HipHopLEAD: Here at HipHopLead.com we like to ask our features some questions that really are out of the norm.We do this because it gives the fans a broader outlook on you.So lets get it cracking ….

HipHopLEAD: Are you happy with Obama as a President and the new health care reform?

JaeProd: Hell yea bro! My vote counted and I think every American should have a health plan.

HipHopLEAD: How do you feel about Wacka Flocka and Gucci Mane as hiphop artists?

JaeProd: Like man… they good.. I guess they got that skill of comin up wit catchy hooks and wack ass verses and have dumb people following it and I sometime don’t even be understanding wtf they be saying, their interviews is always a puzzle to me hahaha Their slang is way different from what NY rappers be saying.. but I give them props for what they doing… they on their grind u feel me? Shows here and there featured here and there etc.

HipHopLEAD: Being from the East Coast in your opinion, will Fat Joe ever get back to his gritty NYC roots again??

JaeProd: Man he can do whatever he wants! I was only feeling Big Pun and I think Cuban Link needs more props than anybody on Terror Squad even tho he aint from that clique. But I think Fat Joe dosen’t even give a fuck if he don’t sell more than 3000 copies its first week.

HipHopLEAD: Back To The Norm……. Name 1 song you’ve done that will have the HipHopLead.com viewers hooked!?

JaeProd: Ima have this new track called “Stranded On Death Row” featuring Main Murdah and HEC two heads from the BMC label, its off the hook and I know is gonna make a great look for the people of HHL to check out.

The video for it will be coming out soon directed by James Curtis for Premier Music Vids so be on the look out for that soon.

HipHopLEAD: Thanks for hollering at us and in closing give any shoutouts….links to your sites….F.U.’S or whatevers clever..

JaeProd: Fosho.. shout outs to my peoples HEC, Main Murdah the whole BMC crew, Premier Music Vids for the ILL videos, a big up to the supporters is all love and for the haters I know who yall are soones I see they can’t even look into my eyes wen im talkin straight up to them that’s wen you know they fake an think im a threat cuz im better than them. shout outs to my bros. and just check me out on www.jaeprod.com, www.myspace.com/jaeprodsite for any updates new songs interviews videos etc. ye ye yeaaaah!
