Wyclef Denies Rumors He Paid Mistress With Yele Funds

Wyclef Jean can’t seem to stay out of line the fire when it comes to his Yele-Haiti organization and this time the musician/philanthropist is fighting back against claims he paid his alleged mistress with money form the company. An unnamed source spoke with celebrity website Gawker and claims Jean paid Zakiya Khatou-Chevassus $105,000 a year as an independent contractor with Yele money back in 2008. Reportedly working as Jean’s personal assistant, Khatou-Chevassus’s salary was substantially higher than that of the organization’s director due to her rumored romantic relationship with Jean.

“When Donkeys spread rumors about me I don’t respond cause I’m the master that leads them to the well to drink the water,” he tweeted. “If you ride with me you are on the right side or you can follow your slave master and believe what he tells you. Since some of you like to believe everything you read with out having Facts pass this around! Wyclef is an alien from outer space.” Jean also questioned the timing of the rumor, since several stories have come out questioning the validity of his fundraising efforts following the massive earthquake that hit Haiti in January.

“I have been spending money in my country since I was a Fugees! Why is it now after the quake I am being accused,” he pondered. “They fear I’m gaining ground. And don’t get it twisted! My garage could fit half of the people on twitter why would I steal charity money! Your gotta’ come better than that.” The Grammy winner was previously accused of using nearly a third of the organization’s $1 million earnings to cover “administrative costs” in 2006, including collecting a $100,000 salary to perform at his own charity event. Jean has since hired new accountants for the organization.
