Swizz Beatz To Receive Award For Humanitarian Work

Super producer Swizz Beatz will receive the Inspiration Award at SESAC’s annual New York Awards ceremony next month. Swizz will be honored by the performing rights organization in recognition of his humanitarian efforts to raise money for Haiti. Following the catastrophic 7.0 magnitude earthquake that hit the country in January, Swizz co-wrote and co-produced the track ‘Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour)‘ alongside U2‘s Bono and the Edge.

“The idea of the song is ‘We’re not gonna leave you stranded’ and that’s what the chorus is,” Swizz explained in an interview. “So me and Bono started going back and forth with ideas. He was like, ‘You know this word stranded keeps standing out to me’ and I asked him to sing it, and he put me on hold ’cause he’s recording the ideas on a Dictaphone — so he did it there and then on the phone.”The song, which was performed by Jay-Z and Rihanna during the ‘Help for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief’ telethon was released to iTunes with all proceeds benefitting the country. Additionally Swizz has also worked with the United Nations to unify the entertainment community in the promotion of global peace.
