If you planned to pick up a wedding gift for Usher this weekend, hold up — the singer and his fiancee have announced that their wedding is off.

Usher’s representatives issued a statement Saturday (July 28) announcing that the singer and his fiancee, stylist Tameka Foster, have canceled their ceremony, adding that “no additional information will be given regarding the circumstances of the cancellation.” The statement went on to ask for privacy regarding the matter.

Usher and Foster were engaged earlier this year, and announced that they are expecting their first child in the fall.

The relationship and engagement was the source of much inspiration as Usher toiled away on his upcoming, yet untitled album. He gushed about the news when MTV News visited his studio recently, and producer Jermaine Dupri noted that a track called “The Realest” was inspired by Usher’s enthusiasm over the relationship. “He was like, ‘I got the realest woman in the world. You ever had the realest woman in the world? You ever have a real one?’ ” Dupri said.

But the engagement had also been the source of much controversy, which Usher eventually addressed in an open letter to People magazine.

“I am happy, excited, completely clear and independent on my direction, feelings, decisions and I am Not Being Led,” he wrote, addressing rumors that Foster has Usher on a short leash.
