Akon: Accidentally Knocks A Fan During A Concert At Guyana?..  | read this item

Despite a video that surfaced last week that seems to show singer Akon assaulting a concertgoer at a show in Guyana on August 30, his publicist says the incident did not occur as it appeared in the original video.

Akon’s publicist has released a new tape from the Guyana concert, taken from another angle, that shows a different side to the story. The new clip shows Akon struggling to his feet on a camera platform in the crowd. His rep tells MTV News, “As you can see from the full, correct footage, Akon is struggling to find his balance and accidentally knocked into the fan. He did not let her fall and gave her a hug and then they started dancing together. She is smiling.”

“We are shocked to hear that there is a video clip circulating that suggests Akon treated a fan badly during his August 30th performance in Guyana,” a statement from the show’s promoters, Hits & Jams Entertainment, added. “There were no incident reports stemming from the event. Despite a late start, the concert was a tremendous success, and we hope that Akon will come back soon.”

Akon is set to stand trial December 1 for a separate incident involving a fan last summer at a festival in Long Island, New York. During the incident, Akon allegedly threw a 15-year-old fan off the stage after the teen reportedly threw an object at the singer. He pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree harassment and endangering the welfare of a minor. If convicted on both charges, he could face a year and 15 days in jail.
