Nicki Minaj says some of the tracks on Pink Print show which direction she’s currently at with her music.
“With ‘Chi-Raq’ and ‘Lookin’ Ass,’ they’re definitely more…back to my Hip Hop roots,” Minaj says in an interview with MTV. “And I don’t think it’s something that I’m necessarily trying to do. As soon as I started working on my third album, that’s just the songs that I’ve been writing.”
Nevertheless, Minaj says she has different sounds for the upcoming album.
“There are other types of music on my album that I’m super excited for,” she says. “I’m actually putting a song out in a week and a half. It’s nothing like ‘Chi-Raq’ or ‘Lookin’ Ass,’ so I don’t want people to think that I’m only gonna be doing that type of music. I’m gonna do what my heart tells me to do.”
Nicki was criticized for her pop themed songs like “Starships” and “Super Bass” and was asked if audiences would hear any similar song. Nicki Minaj replied, “Hell no.”
Outside of music, Minaj says her style is making changes.
“I went so far to the other side that there’s only one place to go from there,” Minaj says. “You can either continue doing costumes or you can just say, ‘Hey guess what? This will shock them even more. Doing nothing will shock them even more.'”
