Nicki Minaj has been making her rounds in promotion of her newest single, “Pills N Potions.” She recently spoke with her hometown radio station, New York’s Power 105.1 and its The Breakfast Club show.
It’s clear that Minaj has had more commercial success than her other female counterparts in the rap industry and was asked why they have not had the same fortune. Nicki responded saying it harder for females to come up in the industry and that Hip Hop is “not female friendly.”
“I can’t really speak for anybody’s grind or how pop culture receives people,” Nicki said. “I’m not surprised because even when I was grinding and putting out tapes and stuff like that, it was hard for me. It takes a lot of work. It doesn’t just happen overnight. It’s not a female-friendly business. Hip Hop is not female friendly at all.”
Nicki Minaj was also asked about her new single and where the material for her verses were inspired from.
“I’ve come across a lot of people who I’ve given amazing opportunities to, who continue to bite the hand that fed them, and I always give people enough rope to hang themselves with. In general, I think in life, I try to be super fair to everyone so when you cross me it’s just like, ‘Really? Hmmm… OK.’ It is what it is. I still love.”
