New York bred rapper Ja Rule started his bid in prison June 2011, and is expected to be released in a few months. His scheduled release date is February 21, 2013, after serving 20 months for felony weapons charges stemming from his 2007 arrest, where police found a loaded semi-automatic gun.
While some rappers have been pretty vocal while being incarcerated, Ja has kept it pretty lowkey. Besides getting in a little trouble for using his birthday call for a Sirius XM interview, he wrote a letter to Vibe.com from jail in December 2011, insisting he wants to “help other kids break the cycle.”
Ja Rule released Pain is Love 2 on February 28, and it debuted at #197 on the Billboard 200, selling 3,200 copies in the US during its first week. No word yet on when he will get back to the studio when he returns home.
