Hip-hop mogul Chris Lighty found dead in Bronx apartment on Thursday, August 30th morning. He was the founder and CEO of Violator.
Lighty, who was 44 years old, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was found dead in his South Riverdale apartment at 11:30 am. Paul Browne, chief spokesperson for the New York City police department, said that a 9MM gun was found at the scene and that there was no sign of forced entry.
He managed popular artists such as 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes, Diddy, Missy Elliott, LL Cool J, Ja Rule, A Tribe Called Quest, Mariah Carey and others. His death is apparently a suicide.
According to sources, Lighty and his estranged wife Veronica were engaged in a heated argument before the incident took place. The couple, who have one child together, had been going through a difficult divorce since earlier last year. There are also reports that Lighty was having financial problems, owing more than $330,000 in state and federal taxes (although it has been reported on a few sites that Lighty owed $5 million to the IRS, he cleared away his debt last year).
Our Condolences go out to his family and close friends.
R.I.P. Chris Lighty.
