Drake Sued For Unauthorized Use Of Sample On Track
Drake and Cash Money are being sued by the Jimmy Smith’s Estate for the the use of late jazz musician Jimmy Smith’s voice on Nothing Was The Same’s “Pound Cake/Paris Morton Music 2″.
The lawsuit claims a sample from the track “Jimmy Smith Rap” was used on the Drake record without approval. The Smith Estate is reportedly seeking $300,000 from the rapper and others.
The “Jimmy Smith Rap” was properly licensed.
As of yet, Drake has not made any public comment regarding the situation.
Smith passed awayin 2005 at the age of 79.
