For starters, shout out to this website for lettin me sound off with ya’ll. I got this message in my inbox this week, I left the name of the person out for privacy purposes, but ya’ll can peep it to see what the person said “yo K, wud up.
I see you doin ya thing hard, I respect your grind. Anytime I see NY cats go hard it makes me feel good ya dig. But on some real real, I’m tired of this rap shit, it’s like every where I turn I get shitted on. These websites don’t show me love, and a nigga can’t afford to keep payin DJ’s for slots. Fuck it, I’m a do me my g, but keep killin shit. 100″.
A lot of cats go thru this shit in the music biz. The funny thing is that I went to dudes website and he could actually spit, son was dope. But he’s complaining that the “top” Hip Hop websites refuse to show him love. Why is that?
I think at the end of the day artist have to realize that you have to focus less on what you can’t do, and focus more on what you can do. A lot of times artist want to be on all the “hot” Hip Hop websites, and on every DJ’s mixtape. But in actually this industry is so filled with payola, and groupies that if you don’t have an industry co sign, or you don’t have financial backing no one will help you out.
At the end of the day you have to focus on what you can do. If certain websites and DJ’s don’t want to fuck with you it’s ok. At the end of the day the industry is filled with groupies, once you get a co sign every body wants to hop on the band wagon and follow suit.
Your best bet is to find individuals that share the same passion and drive for your music that you do. Even if it is a small DJ without a big name, still fuck wit him. Always remember that just because someone is not LARGE today, that does not mean that they won’t be large tomorrow.
Utilize all of the outlets you can to promote yourself, eventually doors will open. Persistance always wears down resistance.
